Statement:
For me, painting is a joyful journey within. I work intuitively and spontaneously without preliminary sketches, my emotions and inner sensations lead the way and express themselves in the language of dreams. A child-like wonder seems to envelop me as I explore the intrinsic energy of color and light. Working in several stages and applying multiple layers, I mix paint to diverse consistencies right on the canvas –which lays on the floor– and then daub, pour, spread, scrub, drip or scrape, incorporating gestural brushstrokes to blend, smooth or enhance. The result is a surface that seems to connect with the viewer in an almost magical manner, that somehow soothes and vitalizes at the same time. A subtle glow which can barely be described with words seems to flow from within the canvas, evoking pleasure-filled sensations or memories.
Peruvian-born, I have lived in three continents and since 2005 call Madrid home, a succession of experiences which have undoubtedly shaped my creative approach, my outlook on life and my perspective about the oneness of humanity.
I see my work as a means to convey optimism, to inspire others to reclaim their personal power, and to share my vision of self-assured individuals, sparks of the divine, changing reality in a positive way.
Vita / Lebenslauf:
Susie Gadea was born in 1953, in Lima, Peru, in a bicultural family that encouraged her artistic inclinations and sense of global-citizenship. In 1969 she moved to Australia where she studied graphic design at the Brisbane School of Art. In 1978, she settled in the Dominican Republic where she successfully worked as an independent design and communications consultant. In 1999 she obtained a degree in psychology, discipline which furthered her understanding of herself and others; her inclination to transpersonal psychology complemented her philosophical and metaphysical interests, an on-going influence in her understanding of reality. The year 2000 marked the beginning of a period of intense inner search and adjustment of her goals which lead her to embrace the challenge of artistic self-expression, her live-long passion. Shortly after her first solo exhibit in Santo Domingo in 2001, she closed her design studio to devote herself in body and soul to painting. In 2005 she moved to Madrid in order to expand her horizons, since then she has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. Her work is part of private collections in the United States, Spain, Austria, Korea, Australia, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic. Her motivation is connecting with our most sensitive fibers and reminding us of the spontaneous, joyful and eternal essence that lives within.
