Vita / Lebenslauf:
I studied at the University of Wisconsin, then studied poetry under John Yau, Bernadette Meyer, and David Trinidad at the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church, the heart of poetry in NYC, and Charles Bernstein at the New School. I co-curated two art shows at ABC No Rio, an alternative community center in NYC.I read my poetry with Alan Ginsburg, discussed aleotoric art with John Cage, squatted on the Lower East Side, performed with the great jazz percussionist Philip Wilson and others, but saw too many fall to senseless tragedy, and left.
I lived in New Orleans for a while, my companions street musicians and local characters, taking inspiration from pealing paint on old wooden walls, oak trees, termites swarming around the street lamps at night, the pastel colors of the thick air at dusk, but moved on.
Out on the West coast I fell into a job as a commercial photographer. In a year I took over 50,000 photos of buildings in cities all over the Pacific Northwest, in rain, in fog, in sun, in shadow in mist, in summer, and winter. A fantastic experience.
Now, somehow, my poetry and photography has combined. Lichen, water, stone, corrosion, decay, reflections on the facades of buildings, and the faces of my friends, have become the vocabulary of a visual poetry. Each piece is a story, it has its own mythology. Some of these stories of these images I understand, some not. They fall down from the sky.
