Kunstart: Malerei
Technik: Aquarell
Stil: Gegenständlich

Vita / Lebenslauf:
As a child I often felt like an outsider. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania I felt at home surrounded by woods, trees, creeks and meadows. Capturing the freedom I experienced from nature, I paint figures relating to each other in natural environments. In my paintings the people are unrestricted, exposed, and accessible to each other. My goal is to portray figures manifesting honest, vulnerable emotions through their actions.

The figures and landscapes I paint are in watercolor. I guide my models through various improvisational sequences and scenarios. In addition to working directly from life, photographs are taken as they progress. From these photos and sketches, I draw and when a drawing has the cradle of an idea I begin to paint on the watercolor paper. Using references from my landscape paintings, or working directly from life, I incorporate the figures into scenes. I don’t pre-mix the colors, but apply them directly to the paper and allow them to mix on the paper. The watercolor paint separates into different areas as it dries creating rivulets of color.
