Statement:
I explore the intersection of natural and human constructed environments. I am interested in how these environments affect us physically and psychologically.
The challenges of understanding curves in the earth's surface, topography and mapping, creating organic forms with processed materials, the materiality of everyday life: these are the things that fascinate me and keep me exploring. I imagine my work as "constructing nature.”
The San Francisco Bay Area inspires me with what I call its in-between areas, areas somewhere between city and country, urban and rural, nature and culture. Geographic and physical boarders are ill-defined as cities, water and parkland intermingle. Differentiations between land, sea and sky change throughout the day through cycles of weather and tides. Asphalt, water, forests, buildings, fog, animals, trains, and automobiles coexist, creating new hybrid landscapes. This region is a merger of city, ocean, and park, creating something all together new.
