Statement:
Since 2006 Monte has been exploring a series of work called “Behind the Mask". He believes that we sometimes wear masks either for real protection or to hide our true thoughts and feelings. This concept is expressed through varied forms of mediae.
Vita / Lebenslauf:
Monte was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
Although his painting career was founded in London, Ontario, he presently works in a Kitchener home studio.
He believes that we sometimes wear masks either for real protection or to hide our true thoughts and feelings. This concept is expressed through varied forms of mediae.
Boldly-coloured, canvas paintings of masked figures examine our role in the workplace. Monte feels we exist in a world beset by global issues.
Digital prints based on the relationship between the owner and his or her masks, develop mystery and intrigue. These images based on photo studies, create a new world through an owner/mask cohesion.
Romantic collages, transport us to a surreal existence. These reassembled images reveal a transformation in vitality and power. The same issues of power, love and control are found in the episodes of life.
Digital, On Stage prints, look at life internationally. The world becomes a stage through multiple, photographic studies. A spiritual co-existence between humankind and masks express mystery, energy and life.
Aktivitäten / Ausstellungen:
Monte is represented by the Amsterdam Whitney Art Gallery, New York City for one year. His special on site exhibit will continue until Jan. 4th, 2010.
This is one of the many exciting events happening in Monte’s art career at the moment. He is also represented by The Artists’ Haven Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for one year. His exhibit will take place in March, 2010.
He has just finished exhibiting some of his work at the Primo Piano Living gallery in Lecce, Italy and the Ben Navaee gallery in Toronto.
Besides this, Monte is now included in two contemporary art books called the, “2009 International Juried Photo Competition”, printed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the “Neopoprealism Starz, 21st Century Art, Part one, printed in New York.
In June, 2010 he will be one of the artists chosen to be in the cultural art book, “Aesthetics and Contemporary Art 11”, Cordoba, Argentina.
