FOTOGRAFIE & FOTOKUNST

Die Fotografie hat Heiko Westphalen (*1958) sein Leben lang begleitet. Mehr als zehn Jahre lang lebte er in Berlin/West.

Die damals noch geteilte Stadt bot zahlreiche spannende Motive für seine Fotokunst. Auf seinen Reisen, die ihn unter anderem nach Indien und Südamerika führten, standen vor allem die Menschen und ihr Alltagsleben im Fokus seiner künstlerischen Arbeit.

Seine Reiseeindrücke zeigte er in Berliner Cafés und Kneipen. Schon damals – noch ohne die heutigen Möglichkeiten der digitalen Bildbearbeitung – war der Prozess der Bildbearbeitung in der Dunkelkammer wichtig für Westphalens Suche nach dem „perfekten Bild“.

Als „Jünger Gutenbergs“ hat Heiko Westphalen das grafische Gewerbe
von der Pieke auf gelernt – vom Handsatz bis zum Apple Macintosh. Mehr als 35 Jahre lang hat er in den verschiedensten Sparten des grafischen Gewerbes gearbeitet. Ein Schwerpunkt seiner beruflichen Tätigkeit blieb auch nach einer beruflichen Neuorientierung die Druckerei und der daraus resultierende Umgang mit Bildmaterial.

Seit 15 Jahren arbeitet Heiko Westphalen als Gruppenleiter in einer hiesigen Flensburger Einrichtung für Menschen mit einer psychischen Beeinträchtigung.
