Vita / Lebenslauf:
Eric Higgs’s designs are inspired by geography, architecture, history, culture, and philosophical observations specific to each environment, with the objective of encouraging every viewer to identify with various aspects of the installation. He aims to maximize the energy and intrigue of each installation by exposing the raw truth in his materials. Higgs is fascinated by the characteristics and challenges of working with permanent, maintenance free materials such as hard stone, reclaimed exotic hardwoods, metals, and concrete.
He believes that site-specific works should emphasize a location’s identity, inspire community, and create lasting intrigue as an integral part of their environments. He is drawn toward the challenge of engaging viewers with believability of concept while maintaining an abstracted genre. His ultimate goal is to transition viewers through a unique experience of beauty and creativity beyond the hectic nature of their lives, leaving each person with the feeling that some things are permanent and right in the world.
He has over ten years of experience successfully executing large budget, complex projects with extremely short deadlines. All of these projects required incorporating needs of the private and public sectors, architects, developers, the general public, and in some cases other artists. His installations can be seen throughout the United States and part of collections throughout France and Japan.
