Al Schnupp holds a PhD from UCLA. He has designed and directed numerous plays. His plays have been produced in New York City, Los Angeles, regional venues and have been broadcast on public radio. Honors include the Margo Jones National Playwriting Award, an UNIMA International Citation of Excellence and an Art Inspires grant. Al has published several plays and a theatre textbook.

Al Schnupp is creating a collection of assemblages. Each piece illuminates a theatrical script, using visual metaphor, text, caricature, archetypal shapes and miniature scenography. A variety of materials are incorporated into the work: wood, paper, paint, plastic, metal, fiber, found objects and crafted objects. Works are 44 inches by 44 inches by 4 inches, with 12 to 15 inserts.
