We wanted to create a long, framed horizontal catacomb filled with our mysterious, hooded cardinals . These figure were created through a salt-firing process that involves adhering pieces of berries, steel wool, and wire to the bisque- fired clay before going through a final firing. These elements give it a mottled, almost bone-like appearance. The mystery of the piece became evident when we began constructing the architectural framework of the catacomb.
