Beginning with squeegied surfaces of variegated colours, I transcribe forms that originated with paint throws and obsessively paint the spaces between these forms with a single flat colour. When completed, the reproduced and Rorscharch-like images, seem to be on the surface but from a closer view, the surface breaks apart and there is a sudden reversal of figure and ground. In effect, they become “reverse collages” or inside-out paintings. |
