Jennifer Joseph
Jennifer Joseph (1966) moved from Philadelphia to Santa Fe, NM in 1991 after completing her BFA from Moore College of Art and Design. In the last seventeen years, she has dedicated herself to a body of work consisting of painting and sculptural installation that is primarily an investigation of subtle structures. Using proliferations of one thing, whether it is a brushstroke or a readymade object, Joseph creates systems and employs structures that interact with the random phenomena of light, perspective and perception. Her process is largely meditative and seeks to elucidate energy patterns and vibrations, to bring attention to light and to remind the viewer that beauty is a powerful antidote to a disaffected world. Joseph was recently named in the Santa Fean magazine as one of the top emerging artists in Santa Fe. In January of 2008, she was included in an exhibition at the New Mexico Museum of Art that was curated by Whitney curator Elizabeth Sussman. In 2006 she was commissioned to do a piece for NMMA’s permanent collection, and also in 2006 completed a large scale site specific installation there for the exhibition, Constellation. She also recently completed a major installation at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe. Her 3D work was included in 3D Art/Techné, a catalog of contemporary 3D artists in New Mexico published last year by Fresco Fine Arts Publishing. She was also recently named as a force driving the contemporary art scene in Santa Fe because of her role as a primary organizer of Bloc-Busta, an independent curatorial initiative and publication featuring 86 contemporary artists in the area. She regularly exhibits her work in Santa Fe, and has exhibited nationally and internationally to critical acclaim.
